SUSTAINABILITY AND THE ELECTRICITY SECTOR - OBJECTIVES, INSTRUMENTS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF GERMAN ENERGY POLICY
Verena Leila HOLZER
Abstract
The great importance of energy policy results from various factors, such as: increasing international demand for energy, the decreasing reserves of gas, oil and coal, but also the recognition of the importance of electricity in the production process. Last but not least, electricity generation has a serious impact on the global environment. Politicians and the public have recognised that these challenges need a long-term approach. The concept of sustainability is a very popular and promising approach to global problems reaching beyond short-time planning.
