Abstract

This paper deals with three patterns of light verb constructions with experiencer objects: in N bringen, zu N bringen, in N versetzen. The patterns have in common that they constitute a causativization of the emotional state denoted by the noun included in the construction, but they differ in aspectual properties, and in their compatibility with different nouns. On the basis of a corpus study on 60 emotion nouns, the paper characterizes groups of nouns showing the same behaviour with respect to light verb constructions, carves out properties that block the use of the light verb constructions, and puts forward suggestions on the semantics of the patterns.
