German as a Language of Partnership in Multilingual Central Europe
Abstract: The article discusses the role of German in multilingual Central Europe from linguistic, cultural, and educational perspectives. Starting from the thesis that German has a future above all as a language of partnership, it analyses historical ambivalences, current dynamics of Englishisation, migration, and digitalisation, as well as their implications for higher education and language teaching. German thus appears not as a rival to English, but as a regionally anchored language of cooperation, neighbourhood, and cultural mediation.
