Abstract

Marie Antoinette, published in 1932, is one of the most famous and highly regarded works by Stefan
Zweig. The author writes an insightful biography of the Rococo queen and creates a psychological portrait of
the French monarch. At the center of his focus is the individual. One of the main themes of the work is the
various boundaries Marie Antoinette faces: cultural, resulting from her Austrian heritage, moral, related to the
expectations placed upon her as a queen, and territorial, connected to the geopolitical situation.
