Abstract

The article concerns the latest translations of Eichendorff’s poems into Polish. The first part indicates
the features of poetry that has been and is so willingly translated and set to sound. The text points to
a limited number of motifs and topics, to plasticity and mood, and illustrates the generalizable compositional features of this poetry. Using the examples of the poems Broken Ring, In the foreign place and To the Death
of My Child, the strengths and weaknesses of translation are presented, as well as hidden traps and challenges
for the translator in Eichendorff’s poems. The analysis is preceded by information about the profile of Eichendorff’s
new translator.
