The aim of this article is to comment on the phenomenon of verbo-visual communication using the results of empirical corpus research of German-language public space. The ways in which images/signs interact with words/word elements – i.e., how the verbal and the visual function together – as well as the role of this interaction in conveying information are presented on the basis of a query which was made using the Linguistic Landscape method (language-scape) and which focused on the hybrid forms excerpted from German-language public space. Particular attention is given to the comprehensive nature of this interaction and the creativity shown by the authors of the hybrid forms under analysis.
