Abstract

Usually it is quite easy to motivate students of German Studies to follow up with Language in the Media as a field of research. Therefore, the author of this article proposes including Language in the Media in the education of German Studies Abroad or in the education of DaF (German as a Foreign Language) and DaZ (German as a Second Language) consistently and independently. When students approach Language in the Media in a linguistic way this is an essential component of the so-called Landeskunde (Cultural Studies). Students therein learn more than only to deal with language and to analyze it. They also learn a lot about politics and society and, generally, about culture in the other country. At the same time, students sharpen their consciousness towards circumstances and developments in their own countries.
