Abstract

This article presents the dialect of the language island of Deutschpilsen in northern Hungary, which developed in the Middle Ages from southern Bavarian and east-central German dialectal elements. The colonists of the village immigrated from Tyrol, Styria and the Ore Mountains. Their dialects were balanced and mixed in the foreign-language environment. The author of this article carried out empirical field-research and collected linguistic data. The vocabulary of this language variety was analysed using this corpus, and the article shows that the lexical layers of this dialect cross several – today existing – borders.
