Abstract

This article presents the results of a study of the use of selected green areas in Lublin. Usage studies were carried out in the Bystrzyca river valley and two selected dry valleys, in 2020-21, in four seasons. The surveys were conducted by observers at pre-selected measurement points. The paper presents the results - number people on the move, divided into pedestrians and cyclists, taking into account the variability in terms of seasons and days of the week. The results also illustrate the variability of use according to the weather. At most survey points, more cyclists were found than pedestrians. However, in dry valleys close to housing estates, the trend was the opposite. The dependence of the number of users on the weather was also clear. The number of users during a sunny day in December was comparable to the number of users during warm seasons. The total number of users on a free day (Saturday) was also clearly higher than the number of users on a weekday (Friday), which indicates the predominance of recreational use of the studied green spaces. In addition, it was noted that the number of cyclists varies considerably according to the seasons - in winter there were far fewer users of this type. In contrast, the number of pedestrians was more stable, although it also decreases in the colder seasons. The research was carried out during the covid-19 pandemic period and can be used as a reference for further studies of these areas. They can also be used in the renewal and development of green spaces in Lublin.
