– an impulse for a socially engaged science

Abstract

Intersectionality analyses the impact of various forms of social identity (e.g., gender, economic status, ethnicity, religion) on socioeconomic inequalities. It may be expanded upon by spatial intersectionality, which examines how different forms of exclusion manifest themselves in specific locations. Intersectionality also reveals the need to integrate research with the knowledge of urban communities, which aligns with the principles of engaged research. The article indicates that intersectionality can enrich urban studies and emphasizes the role of deliberation in building sustainable urban communities. Combining theory and practice, the intersectional approach may effectively link research and urban policies in addressing contemporary challenges.
