Parking lots in urban space – a case study of the “Centrum” housing estate in Białystok

Abstract

The aim of the work is to analyze the availability and efficiency of parking lots in the Centrum estate in Białystok. Together with the dynamic increase in the number of passenger cars parking-related issues became one of the main challenges facing modern cities. The Centrum estate of Białystok is particularly sensitive to shortcomings in parking lots along with its influence on residents' quality of life and the functioning of the whole estate due to high-intensity traffic and a high concentration of service, retail, and public institutions. The analysis showed that parking lots occupy only 5.2% of the estate's area. The number of parking lots in the Centrum estate is insufficient to meet the needs of residents and users. Additionally the existing infrastructure is not being utilized optimally, leading to traffic chaos and difficulties for pedestrians.
