„Kobiecość” jako konstrukt. Tekstowo-dyskursywna analiza stron internetowych męskich i żeńskich świeckich wspólnot katolickich w Polsce

Abstrakt

After the Second Vatican Council, the role of the laity in the Catholic Church increased significantly. Some of the laity began engaging more actively in their local congregations by affiliating with various Catholic organizations and communities, whose social influence continues to grow. This article aims to describe and interpret two constructs of femininity through a textual-discursive analysis of online portals run by male and female Catholic lay communities in Poland, with the goal of identifying differences and their social causes. The study analyzed approximately 40 websites of communities whose members are either male or female, along with materials from the Catholic press. It focused on textual references to women, specific female figures, and discursive representations of femininity, drawing on Michel Foucault’s concept of the order of discourse and Norman Fairclough’s theory of discursive mechanisms. The comparison reveals significant differences. In texts produced by male communities, femininity is correlated in different ways with stereotypical traits of dominant masculinity. This model is conservative and traditional; femininity is either invisible, generalized, or idealized (through images of Mary). By contrast, texts from women’s communities tend to challenge and reinterpret traditional models, portraying femininity as reflective, evolving and increasingly autonomous.
