Contemporary Trends in City Centre Transformation of Big Cities in Poland the Case ofŁódź, Gdańsk and Cracow

Abstract
This article aims to show the problem of city centre transformation in the 21st century, in three Polish cities Cracow, Gdańsk and Łódź. Transformation consists in condensation and conversion of space centre or in creating typical for city centers urban complexes in their nearest area. Cracow is conducting project of building New Town, which is the extension ofthe Old Town centre in the eastern direction. Gdańsk, on the areas of the former Gdańsk Shipyard, northern to the Old Town, implements project for Young City, and in Łódź in the vicinity ofthe city centre, on the postindustrial area is being realized project of New Center of Łódź.
