SOCIAL CAPITAL IN A SMALL TOWN. AN EXAMPLE OF SŁUPCA

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to analyse social Capital in a smali town of Słupca. Słupca is a poviat town with the status of an urban commune. Located in the east-central part ofWielkopolska, 70 km east of Poznań, it had a population of 14.133 in 2007. The analysis embraced the level and quality of Słupca’s social Capital and its impact on the town’ssocio-economic development. The research was conducted in two stages:
(1) questionnaire interviewsona sampleof200 Słupcaresidents, and (2)deeper face-to-faceinterviewswith its active residents, or local leaders.
