International rank of Mysłowice in 1913 as an expression of the central border functions

Abstract

The aim of paper is to show an international significance of the Mysłowice town as the central city of border traffic. The functional basis of Mysłowice in 1913 was reproduced on the base of the archival town plan and historical sources analysis, and next selected the activities directly connected with border function of town. Economic and social development of investigated city was followed on the background of the political division of Europe before the First World War. The economic diversification of countries determined the creation of Mysłowice as commercial and emigration ‘gateway’. The border localization and development of railway lines contributed to creation specific functional structure of investigated town, with domination of wholesale trading, transport, spedition, gastronomy and accommodation services
