The purpose of this paper is to determine areas of the city of Opole that should be subject to revitalization, particularly in the downtown district. The selected sites were evaluated in terms of urban planning on the basis of information contained in documents, such as regeneration schemes, the study of conditions and directions of spatial development, local zoning plans. The aim of this paper is not to evaluate the present revitalization program against other development schemes of similar scope, but to provide arguments to justify the reąuirement ofdeveloping local zoning plans before formulating local revitalization programs.
