Abstract

This article examines the pericope of Romans 12:6-8, in which the apostle Paul lists seven charisms. These spiritual gifts are: prophecy, ministry, teaching, exhortation, generosity, leadership, and mercy. The research process utilized the historical-critical method. To better understand the biblical text, the author consulted not only the works of selected contemporary biblical scholars but also Martin Luther's "Commentary on the Letter to the Romans." This sixteenth-century German theologian provided many practical tips that result from the proper use of charisms and can be very helpful in combating the contemporary plague of selfishness and in building a civilization of love.
