Abstract

The article attempts to analyze the place of a catechumen in the world based on the selected ancient pre-baptismal and mystagogical catecheses. Its references to the instructions issued by catechists from the 4th century ( Cyril of Jerusalem, John Chrysostom, Theodore of Mopsuestia and Augustine of Hippo) aim to show how those authors present  a candidate's relation to the world around him as far as the crucial change in his life: receiving the sacrament of baptism and entering the community of Church

Keywords:

ancient catechumenat, Church of the First Centuries, early Christian initiation, baptismal catechesis
