Chapels and Shrines in the Light of Polish Historiography

Abstract

 

Chapels and roadside shrines are a very characteristic feature of the Polish landscape. These objects are
included in the category of small-sized sacral architecture and are the subject of research representatives in various disciplines and objects which rouse the interest of enthusiasts and sightseers. Due to the development of the state of art on such objects, studies have been undertaken in order to get an answer to the question on how the Polish refers to the function of chapels and shrines. The article presents trends of doing research on the subject of chapels and shrines, defined by the author.
