Abstract

The Union of Poles in Germany, founded in 1922, was largely concerned with religious matters, however, in the Union’s programme itself, these topics were omitted. The Church played an important role in the lives of Poles of Opole Silesia; many Polish organisations and associations
functioned under the Catholic Church’s patronage. Catholic priests played a serious and, in many cases, leadership roles also among the organisers and activists of the Union
of Poles in Germany. Among them are Rev. Bolesław Domański, Rev. Czesław Klimas and Rev. Karol Koziołek. In the year 1930, in the electoral programme of the Polish Movement there appeared a postulate about the establishment of the Opole diocese with a Polish bishop,
and the creation of a Polish Spiritual Academy. This paper answers the question whether this was a pre-electoral bluff or whether this initiative had chances of being realised.
