Stylistyka
Instructions for preparing articles
The maximum length of texts cannot exceed: 20 pages (40,000 characters including spaces) in the case of regular scientific articles (included in Section Articles) and reviews-articles (Section Essay Reviews) and 10 pages (20,000 characters) in the case of reviews or discussions.
It is possible to attach a photograph in the format JPG or TIF to articles of commemorative or jubilee character included in Section Chronicle. The image should have the resolution of at least 300 dpi at the width of 40 mm.
We request the Authors to attach short biographical data about themselves to their articles, see: Biogram.
The text of the manuscript should be prepared in compliance with the following:
- page size: A4 format,
- margins: 2.5 cm on each side,
- type: 12 pts Times New Roman,
- spacing: 1.5,
- paragraph indentation: 1.25 cm;
- text aligned with the left and right margins.
Each graphic element in the text (table, drawing, photograph, etc.) should have the relevant title added and the source (e.g., Source: own elaboration). Tables must be prepared in the text mode.
Quotations:
- short – within double quotation marks (“ ”),
- longer, over 3 lines – isolated from the main body, in a separate paragraph, 10 pts type, spacing 1, without quotation marks,
- source of the quotation – directly following the quotation (within brackets).
Italic type should be used in the text to mark the following:
- expressions rendered in a foreign language,
- examples being analyzed,
- titles of works cited.
Meanings of the words being discussed should be placed within single quotation marks (‘ ’).
Highlights – the bold font style.
Author’s note (including items in quotes, which are omitted) – within square brackets.
Subheadings –12-point type, bolded.
Footnotes (used as a side or auxiliary current in the considerations) – at the bottom of the page, continuous numbering.
Source materials used in the work – to be included in the bibliography under the heading: Sources
The style of recording the source items in the bibliography – according to the model given in References (see below).
Bibliographical Information
- references in the text to printed works – e.g.: (Skubalanka 1995: 11-14), that is: author’s name, year of publication of the work, page/s;
- in the case of many-volume works – the number of the volume, e.g. (Nowak 2020, 2: 125);
- in the case of repeating reference to the same work – repeating the information in the same form, e.g. (Skubalanka 1995: 46). Note: not ibidem or ibid;
- in the case of making reference to a few works of the same author published in the same year – marking with letters: a,b,c, e.g. (Wojtak 1999b);
- references in the main text to Internet sources, e.g. (Magryś 2010), that is: the name of the author, year of publication on the Internet;
- or e.g. (Wierzbicka s.a.), when the year of publication is missing, the title of the work cited;
- or a shortened title of the work and the year of its publication on the Internet if given, e.g. (Celebrycitrafią na uniwersytety? 2013).
Bibliographical items should be placed in alphabetical order at the end of the article – under the heading: References
Note! The list of the items ought to cover only the works that are referred to in the footnotes.
- monographs: the last name and the first letter/s (initial/s) of the name/s of the author of the work, separated with a space, year of publication, title of the work (in the italic font), place of publication: publisher. For instance:
Skubalanka T., 1995, O stylu poetyckim i innych stylach języka: studia i szkice teoretyczne, Warszawa: Wydawnictwo Naukowe PWN.
Note! Do not give the number of pages in the book.
- in the case where a few works of the same author, published in the same year, are referred to – a letter is added following the year of publication. For instance:
Wojtak M., 1999b, Wyznaczniki gatunku wypowiedzi na przykładzie tekstów modlitewnych, „Stylistyka”, VIII, s. 105-117.
- articles in monographs: the last name and initials of the name/s of the author of the article, year of publication, title of the article – title of the monograph (in the italic font), red. … (here, the initial/s of the name/s and the surname of the scientific editor/s of the monograph), place of publication: publisher, the range of pages. For instance:
Adamiszyn Z., 1995, Styl potoczny. – Przewodnik po stylistyce polskiej, red. S. Gajda, Opole: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, s. 183-217.
- articles in journals: the last name and the initial/s of the author’s name/s, year of publication, title of the article, “title of the journal” (within quotation marks and in the italic font), number (the ordering number of the volume, etc.), range of pages. For instance:
Jelínek M., 1955, Odborný styl, „Slovo a slovesnost”, 16, č. 1, s. 25-37.
- If the publication has the DOI identifier, we request the authors to include it in the form of a link: http://dx.doi.org/… at the end of the References. For instance:
Gajda S., 2020, Styl charyzmatyczny, „Stylistyka”, XXIX, s. 9-23, http://dx.doi.org/10.25167/Stylistyka29.2020.1
- If the publication has the Internet address, we request the authors to include it in the form of a link at the end of the References, together with the date of accessing it. For instance:

Abbreviations (if any were used):
- under the text, preceding the References (and eventually Sources);
- heading: List of abbreviations (12 pts, bolded).
Each article should have two abstracts attached (up to half a page in length): one in the language of the article, the other – in English, as well as Keywords in the same languages – see: Abstrakt i słowa klucze [Abstract and Keywords].
Author`s statement
1. Copyrights to published works are held by the University of Opole (to the collective work) and the Authors (to individual parts of the collective work that have an independent meaning).
2. Only previously undistributed works can be published in the scientific journal "Stylistics".
3. The University of Opole does not restrict the possibility of the author's further dissemination of his work on condition that the scientific journal "Stylistics" is indicated as the original place of publication and the consent of the University Publishing House.
4. Consent to the publication of the work in the scientific journal "Stylistics" is tantamount to granting the author a non-exclusive license to the University of Opole, including the right to use the work without territorial restrictions and time limits in the following fields of exploitation:
a) within the scope of recording and multiplication of the work - production of any number of copies of the work in whole or in part using a specified technique, including printing, reprography, magnetic recording and digital technique, introduction of the work into computer memory and computer networks,
b) within the scope of circulation of the original or copies on which the work has been recorded - circulation, lending or hiring of the original or copies,
c) within the scope of dissemination of the work in a manner other than specified in item 2 - making the work or its abstract available on the Internet by enabling the recipients to access the work on-line or enabling them to download the work to their own device that makes it possible to read it, placing the work in electronic databases that disseminate scientific works, including in particular the CEEOL database (Central and Eastern Online Libray) and the abstract in English in the CEJSH database (The Central Europaen Journal of Social Scienes and Humanites).
d) within the scope of creating and distributing dependent works created using the work - using them in the fields of exploitation specified in points 1-3.
5. The author is not entitled to compensation for granting the license to the work.
6. The author agrees that the University may grant further permission to use the work (sublicense) in the fields of exploitation specified in par. 2 paragraph 4.
7. The author agrees that, in connection with the distribution of the work, his or her personal information, that is, name, affiliation, and e-mail address, may be made public.
