The authoress considers the triad of "system - norm - custom" in the light of research into colloquial language. She presents the stratification of norm and its division into codified and customary ones. She looks into the consequences of postulating for а system of subnorms, consisting of functional modifications. The authoress also undertakes an attempt to explain the mechanism of language changes as well as distinguishes the norm variation (in the codified norm) and their oscillations (in the customary norm).
