The paper presents an assessment of current promotional activities in urban-rural communities in the Kielce county and Kielce city, together with an indication of the main problems in the functioning of tourist promotion. An original scoring system was used for the evaluation, carried out in 45 tourist facilities representing communities, in relation to 7 different aspects and 21 promotional subcategories. This system allowed an objective evaluation of tourism promotion activities in studied area. The results of the evaluation indicate that the highest number of points, apart from the commune of Kielce, was obtained by the commune of Chęciny, which has a well-established tradition of promoting tourism and have great achievements in this matter. The high score of Nowa Słupia and Bodzentyn was also found, which results from the location of sightseeing attractions of national importance in their area. In turn, urban-rural communes established in recent years in the presented assessment received the lowest scores, which may be the result of their small experience in undertaking professional promotional activities and lower financial possibilities.
