In Poland after 1990 we can observe the dynamie development of private colleges. Łódź belongs to the cities where the development is especially visible. During transformation period 19 colleges were founded. Earlier there were already six public schools. Moreover in Łódź operate three theological seminaries. Such big number of colleges strongly influences on the whole city and the region. One ofthe visible results ofthis impact is changes in urban space. The aim ofthe article is to show the way in which colleges had been changing the space in which they operate. It presents change in the number of buildings (new ones and old, used previously to different purposes) belonging to the educational institutions and the way in which the development of educational function influences to the spatial development. The analysis is based on the ąuestionnaires realised in Łódź colleges.
