Tourist icons of large Polish cities

Abstract

The article is discussing the issue of tourist icons which was shown on the example of large cities in Poland. It was assumed that a tourist icon is a tourist attraction which is a tourist symbol of the given city (region or country). Moreover, the tourist icon should elicited at the tourist an unequivocal association with the city (region or country) which represents. Very often architectural icons are serving as tourist icons, like e.g. the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Big Ben in London and the Statue of Liberty in New York. Large Polish cities differ in the number and the clarity of crucial tourist attractions and objects with symbolic character.
