The article tackles the issue of the role of religion in the life of contemporary societies from the perspective of selected authors publishing in the Centre for Political Thought. Religion is a necessary axiological foundation for the state, around which it is possible to build a civic community. It provides the state with the values it needs for proper functioning in which the institutions are not able to produce themselves. The reference to transcendence also allows for a deeper interpretation of the fate of a given society throughout history. Nowadays, Christianity is the only important alternative to the liberal trends prevailing in the Western world. It also ensures continuity between European cultural heritage and the present day.
