Abstract
The article discusses the new social conditions of interreligious dialogue. Adopting a sociological perspective and referring to the concept of the risk society and the politics of fear showed that religious diversity today is sometimes treated as a potential threat. This was followed by a discussion of the new social context in which religion operates today. Different ways of understanding and practising dialogue between adherents of different religions and the possible outcomes of such dialogue were also presented, with a particular focus on the perspective of European countries.
