Abstract

The Tower of Babel is analyzed by the author as an archetype of transcending the limitations of the human condition in the biblical narrative. It synthesizes historical-critical exegesis with theological perspectives (Augustine, Niebuhr), philosophical ones (Oakeshott), and historical examples of utopian projects. The hypothesis asserts that the neglect of the ontological boundaries of human nature results in social disorder. This assertion is supported by theological analyses (pride as the cardinal sin), philosophical critiques (rationalism), and historical examples (French Revolution, communism, and components of the European Union). Biblical exegesis, comparative historical analysis, and theological and philosophical interpretation are comprised as part of the methodology. The results underscore the repercussions of pride, which are exemplified by uniformity and the disregard for tradition that leads to crises and alienation. The conclusions advance pluralism, dialogue, and humility as countermeasures to utopian tendencies, while simultaneously honoring the divine and human order.
