Abstract

Taking on a parental role is an important developmental task of early adulthood and a significant experience in the biography. Fulfilling the parental role is a process that a person learns in the course of life. Biographical learning is one of the types of learning. The aim of the research was to explain and characterize the biographical learning of mother’s parental role. The research was conducted in a biographical perspective. The study involved 15 women aged 24 to 35 who are mothers. As a result of the conducted research, it was established that the biographical learning of the parental role by the mother takes place through learning from her own biography and the biography of Others, in the conscious and unconscious dimension, individually or in relation to the Other(s). A key part of the autobiography that is significant in the process of biographical learning of the parental role is the period of growth and development in the home of the family of origin. The life experiences gained in the relationship with the mother and observing her as a mother are particularly significant here.
