Genet approaches the theme of homosexuality and histrionism in a provocative and subversive way. One of the main characteristics of Genet’s writing is his use of gender inversion. Genet often overturned stereotypes and social conventions in his works, challenging established norms of sexuality and morality. The prison itself becomes a symbol of freedom for Genet, a place where he felt comfortable and which allowed him to breathe and create.
