Italy is a country, where history of emigration is longer than history of immigration. In 1976 influx of people from Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe to that country equilibrated the exodus of Italians, and from that time the phenomenon of immigration has been gaining in importance. Therefore, the article presents process of shaping Italian immigration policy, problems related to naming migrating foreigners, and current situation of immigrants and refugees in Italy (especially towards the migration of people from the Arab countries, afflicted with the so-called Arab Spring). Eventually, the authors try to answer the question, whether the presence of „strangers” in that country can be regarded as a threat to social security of the country. Keywords:
