Girl narratives as a reflection of gender culture

Jiří Zeman

Abstract

The article focuses on how gender traits are reflected in the narratives of girls growing up. They stem from stories printed in girls’ magazines and their web portals. The storytelling focuses on three thematic areas: love stories, horror stories and the most embarrassing thing ever experienced. In terms of gender, the focus is primarily placed on love stories, in which the authors present their relationships to boys, forging contacts etc. The article delves deeper into analysing storytelling on embarrassing topics. This kind of storytelling is presented as a specific type of text, which reflects gender specifics in terms of structure and topics.
