Post-structural Thought and the Style of Czech Postmodern Literature (V. Macura, M. Viewegh, P. Lebl)

Bohuslav Hoffmann

Abstract

The author deals with three distinctive features of postmodern style and with their manifestations in the works ofthree well-known representatives of Czech culture in the last decade of the twentieth century. These three features are: (1) ’’simulated reality”, ’’hyper-reality”; (2) intertextuality and moving between genres; (3) radical irony as a re[1]vision ofthe process of modernization. And these three representatives are: two prose[1]writers Vladimir Macura and Michal Viewegh, and a theatre producer Petr Lebl. The ar[1]ticle is based on the author’s detailed previous analyses of the postmodern style of Macura, Viewegh and Lebl.
