Watching television in television. Case of the Gogglebox

Abstract

The author in this text tries to present the phenomenon of social communication in reality
TV focusing on the analysis of the British and Polish versions of the Gogglebox format.
The directions of development of television entertainment are shown, centering around
the genre of reality TV. In addition, the paper contains studies showing the current increase
in television viewing and the statements of the studied group of students on the
convention of entertainment programs. Using the example of the Gogglebox program, the
author indicates the reasons for the absorption in the entertainment television and the
perception of this type of programs. Addictionally, the impact of media convergence on
television audiences is illustrated.
