Abstract

The article focuses on criticism of „capitalist realism” – an ideology diagnosed by Mark Fisher as ubiquitous, which presents capitalism as the only, indisputable, and natural system, effectively blocking political imagination and leading to apathy. The left, deprived of grand narratives and condemned to reactive politics, is unable to build a coherent vision of the future. Passivity also affects the dimension of memory of the experiences of left-wing movements and the melancholy associated with it. The proposed solution is to use the concept of „left hyperstition” – an actively created, utopian vision of the future which, thanks to its agency, can have a real impact on the present. The creation of prospective alternatives is an experimental method that breaks the deadlock of capitalist realism. The thesis of the article is that an alternative to capitalism exists, and the key to its realisation is for the left to regain its confidence and ability to think creatively.
