Abstract

Prof. Czesław Głombik (1935–2022), a philosophy historian at the University of Silesia in Katowice, dealt in his research with the philosophy of Slavic countries (primarily Czech and Slovak philosophy). Ecumenical issues, including the history of Hussitism and Slavic unification concepts, were also present in his works. He discussed two in detail: (1) Jan Kollár’s concept of Slavic reciprocity and (2) the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition, renewed in the 19th century. Glombik believed there were attitudes in Slavic unification concepts that can be referred to in recent ecumenical and integration activities (getting to know one’s partner, sharing in cultural goods, patience and setting small and realistic goals). This article is the first attempt to synthesise the views of Prof. Głombik on ecumenical issues.
