Abstract

After Poland regained independence, Bishop Stanisław Zdzitowiecki proposed reorganizing the diocesan network and became involved in the creation of the Diocese of Częstochowa. He was motivated about this for pastoral reasons (related to the too large territory of the then Diocese of Kujawy and Kalisz), social reasons (concerning
the specificity of work among the working population of Częstochowa and Dąbrowa Basin) and religious reasons (resulting from the role of Jasna Góra Monastery in Poland). The proposition to create the Diocese of Częstochowa was accepted by the entire episcopate. Until 1924, the shape of its borders was discussed. The establishment of a diocese was approved in 1925 in the concordat concluded between the Holy See and the Second Polish Republic and the bull of pope Pius XI: Vixdum Poloniae unitas.
