This article aims to reflect on the initiatory journey of the main character of Flemming Jensen’s novel Imaqa, Martin Willumsen. He uses the notion of possible worlds adapted to literary criticism as a conceptual framework to pose the Other and his respect. It aims to follow in the footsteps of a character who, wanting to seek the dreamed adventure in travel stories, first met himself before meeting the Other. A monosemic world is more of a totalitarian regime which seeks to assimilate the foreigner by extending its grid of values and dogmas to the limit. However, respect for others depends more than on a change of outlook, on an intellectual posture which leaves a great deal of room for the word of the other; to say is ultimately it is already to mingle with one’s own a portion of speech other.
