Mutual Relations in the Service of Faith

Abstract

The liturgy of the Church, chich makes present the saling condescension of God to man and externalizes the relationship of the believer in his journey to God, isalready in itself a work of art. Thisis a fairly obvious fact, and therefore, alreadyat the starting point, we cansay that liturgy by its nature remains open to art.

The intention of this articleis to provide a synthetic justification for the isku eposed in this way. Therefore, we draw attention to the presence of the issue of art in the Old Testament, and then consider the question of the relationship between the mystery of Christ and art. Art, growing out of what is visible in the incarnate Word, in the New covenant takes on the task of proclaiming „what was from the beginning” and what some have experience dsensually, thatis: „seen”, „heard”, „contemplated”, and even „touched”. The incarnate Word – Eternal Life, chich Has become visible–awakens in the one who sees, Joy ful testimony, thatis, leads to the full experience of faith. In a specialway, this principle is realized in the liturgy of the sacraments, and thus in its Holy rites. They become, in turn, a school of contemplation and express the expectation of the final transformation of man in God. Liturgy is one of the Basic inspirations for art, and art born from this inspiration has to do with a special kind of revival in the experience of the Church and believers.

In the light of the analyses conducted, itcan be Said that the relationship betwe en liturgy and art isanissue that is inscribed in the most innerlogic of God’s action and human response to God’s initiative. For this reason, itcan be Said that liturgy is and will remain permanently open to art.
