Abstract

The largest Jewish religious commune in the district of Wieluń during the Second Polish Republic was located in the town of Wieluń. It gathered about 5,000 followers of Judaism. The work of Kehilla was managed by the Board and the Council with the help of many employees who got involved, among other things, in the maintenance of a synagogue, a commune building, a ritual bathhouse, a ritual slaughterhouse and religious schools. The rabbi and the assistant rabbi enjoyed the great recognition of the inhabitants of Wieluń. Despite the then prevailing financial crisis, the Jewish commune in Wieluń undertook social and charitable activities on a large scale through the maintenance and financing of numerous institutions, including Jewish schools.
