Ethical Attempts on a Spiritual Care for the Dying Church

Abstract

The fact that – with regard to Germany – the previous form
of church is ‘dying’ is unstoppable. This is why this article proposes an ethics of an end-of-life care for the church in its appearances and practices, in order to emphasise the theological meaning of the church anew. The aim is to reflect ethically on the importance of strengthening the tolerance of ambiguity for church action and the life-world anchoring of church practices. Univocal tendencies and rigid approaches must be countered with a spiritual renewal that looks beyond trench warfare to an ethics of vulnerability.
