Abstract

The article presents various applications of the chrism (the holy myron) in liturgy of the Orthodox Church. First a particular time of applicationan and meaning of the chrism (myron) in the Byzantine tradition is shown. Then the author discusses the process of evolution of the Byzantine baptismal anointments (prebaptismal and postbaptismal) in the context influenced by the syrian liturgical tradition. Particularly anointing with the chrism (myron) is indicated, that in Byzantine rite is considered as confirmation (miropomazanie). He speaks about anointing of various spots of the body and about the accompanying prayers as it is proved by the former practice of the Russian Church (17th). Finaly, at attempt at formulating liturgical theology of the human body has been made, as it appears in the liturgical practice.
