The subject of the article is the description of diocesan preparations and the course of Pope Francis’s pilgrimage to the Jasna Góra Monastery on July 28, 2016. This event was part of the national thanksgiving for the gift of the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland and was linked to the celebration of World Youth Day in Kraków. The source base for the research consists of documentation from the Metropolitan Curia in Częstochowa, materials from organizing committees, and the teachings of the Holy Father. The historical and theological analysis allowed for showcasing the evolution of papal apostolic journeys to Częstochowa against the backdrop of political, social, and economic transformations. The article discusses the logistical dimension of the event and the unique character of the papal homily, which was based on the theology of God’s littleness, closeness, and concreteness. This visit differed from previous pilgrimages of the successors of St. Peter, which had a national-state character. Despite clear references to the role of John Paul II and Poland’s historical heritage, it presented a pastoral model based on a direct, communal dimension of faith.
