Abstract

The love accompanying the relationship between a man and a woman takes many forms. In the context of the scientific research conducted by Sternberg and by the theory he created, the combination and intensity of the three components of love: intimacy, passion, and commitment makes it possible to distinguish the different types of relationships into which a person enters (liking, infatuation, falling in love, fatal love, friendly love, perfect love) and to create a scheme of the phases of an emotional relationship.
The object of the conducted discussion became the feeling of falling in love, while the scientific research aimed to indicate its importance for building relationships in the period of engagement and marriage. The applied method of critical analysis of the literature on the subject made it possible to draw the following conclusions: falling in love, experienced both in the period of engagement and marriage, has its positive and negative sides. This is because the feelings a person feels can be directed not only to the fiancé, spouse, or immediate family members but also to third parties.
