Vol. 36 (2019):

Studia Miejskie, Volume 36, presents the latest research results on Polish cities, directions of their development and modern ways of managing them. Urban space management requires its users to constantly conduct in-depth research and analyses of this process, to verify current approaches towards setting developmental goals, to construct well-thought-out concepts of the city, and then to consistently implement the adopted goals.

The conducted research reported on in this volume was based primarily on social issues. The authors who contributed their articles note the importance of needs and aspirations of city users as well as involvement of residents. Attention is also paid to the process of urban depopulation as a result of negative birth rate and negative migration balance. With regard to the current needs of city users it is not only the basic ones (those related to living and working in the city) which have been addressed, but also those con- nected with communication and getting around within the city or spending free time. Needs for an aesthetic landscape not only in the city, but also in a wider vicinity of the area, are expressed, too. The research presented in Studia Miejskie, Volume 36, mainly concerns regions in Poland such as Poznań, Wrocław, Warsaw, Krakow, Łódź, Katowice, Opole. In the presented articles new solutions to various problems, modern ways of organizing city management, and rational shaping of urban space are being looked for.

We believe that the articles included in the journal will contribute to the develop- ment of contemporary views and thoughts relating to cities and their functioning as well as will offer an interesting read to all those involved in the process of urban space management.
