Abstract

Ps 6 is an individual lament (structure: 2-4 lament; 5-8 prayer for healing; 9-11 thanksgiving). Laments in the Bible cover a wide variety of topics. Ps 6 is the first of the seven .penitential psalms (Ps(s) 6; 32; 38; 51; 102, 130; 143). Verses 2-3 demonstrate the pervasive power of sin. The sin has an impact on whole existence, as evidenced by the use of the word s “bones” (physical) and “soul” (entire being). In essence, the psalmist is trying to plead with God by saying, “If You don’t deliver me, You will have one less worshiper”. Psalmist puts a high value on the praise of God as a bargaining chip.
